Teaching material for Classical Tamil

The First CTWS (in 2003)

The first CTWs (Puducherry, 2003)

One reason why it is difficult to learn classical Tamil is that to this day there are virtually no teaching materials, be it in the form of a textbook or of a grammar for students. The Classical Tamil Winter and Summer Seminars (CTWS/CTSS) yearly held since February 2003 at the Centre of the Ecole Française d’Extrême-Orient in Puducherry have produced a number of readers, both on beginner’s and on advanced level. They usually contain a Tamil text in metrical form, a word-split transcript and complete analytic indexes of the vocabulary.
